As two players move in a very confined space - a court measuring around 60 square meters - consideration and safety are the top priorities.

To ensure that the game is fun for everyone Sportcenter Wittenau remains a pleasure and injuries are avoided, it is important to observe a few unwritten (and written) laws.

Here is our guide to fair and safe squash in Berlin-Reinickendorf.

1. safety always comes first (safety first)

The most important rule of squash is: never hit the ball if there is a risk of hitting your opponent with the racket or the ball.

The „Let“ (repetition): If your teammate is in your way and you cannot hit freely, stop the shot immediately and call „Let“. The rally is repeated. It is not a sign of weakness, but of professionalism to refuse to hit the ball in order to protect your partner.

The „stroke“ (point gain): If the opponent completely blocks the path to the ball or the stroke path to the front wall, you receive the point (stroke).

Our tip: When in doubt, always stop the stroke. Health is more important than a point.

2. the right equipment: leave no streaks

We are proud of our well-maintained sprung floors. These offer you the optimum grip for quick stops and sprints.

Thu: Only wear clean indoor shoes with a light-colored, abrasion-resistant sole (non-marking).

Don't: Street shoes, running shoes with dark soles or dirty footwear are taboo on the courts. They leave marks that are difficult to remove and can permanently damage the floor.

If you have forgotten the right shoes, we will be happy to help you with rental shoes at our counter.

3. fair play: clearing the way

Squash is a tactical game of spatial control. The goal is often the „T“ (the T-line in the middle of the court).

Thu: Try to return to the „T“ immediately after your shot, but make sure your opponent has a clear path to the ball.

Don't: Do not stand still and do not deliberately block the running lanes. Blocking is unsportsmanlike and disrupts the flow of the game. If you notice that you are in the way, apologize briefly with a hand gesture.

4. punctuality and respect

In the Sportcenter Wittenau the courts are often well booked. A smooth process guarantees that everyone can enjoy their full playing time.

Thu: Be ready to start on time. If your booking starts at 18:00, you should already be dressed and warmed up.

Don't: Do not overrun your playing time. If other guests have booked after you, please leave the court on time at the end of your session so that the following players can use their full 45 or 90 minutes.

5. communication and volume

Emotions are part of sport, especially in intense matches. Nevertheless, we ask for your consideration.

Thu: Clarify disputed situations (was the ball out of bounds? Was it a let?) calmly and objectively. If you can't agree, simply repeat the rally.

Don't: Loud swearing, throwing rackets or hitting the walls is not appreciated. Respect the concentration of the players on the neighboring courts (or playing badminton next door).

Conclusion: It's better to play fair

Following these simple rules ensures that squash is fun for beginners and pros alike. It creates an atmosphere in which people enjoy working out and then perhaps relaxing together in our sauna.

We look forward to seeing you on the court!

See also:

Understanding squash balls: What the colored dots mean

The right shoes: Squash

The basic rules of squash - simply explained for your start

Squash Doubles: Double the fun on the court?

Tennis, badminton or squash: which sport suits you best?

Squash rackets: rent or buy?

Squash: Dominate the „T“

Squash ist einer der schnellsten und dynamischsten Rückschlagsportarten der Welt.
